The Rugby Netball League was established in 1909 and is now played at Clapham Common during the summer mostly by rugby players under the new name Netrugby. Being able to pass in any direction and no offside laws encourage fast movement of the ball around the pitch, but full contact tackling around the net can make goals hard to come by against a well organised defence.

It is a fast-moving exciting game played on weekday evenings during May, June and July. The season finishes off with a World Cup competition in August. Rugby Netball is played on Clapham Common on Tuesday and Wednesday nights. The games kickoff at 7.30pm consisting of two 30 mins periods. This blog is written by Gareth Thomas – I’ve played rugby netball / netrugby for Battersea Ironsides since 1998 and loved every season. The blog is designed to mix the latest news on the game with a look back at some of the game’s long history. Many people have kindly shared pictures and memories of the sport and if you send me yours to gareth.thomas@brands2life.com, I’ll do my best to add it up here. Enjoy the site and please feel free to use the comments boxes at the end of each post to leave your thoughts.
